Cover dated Oct 20, 1849 since “Old Rough & Ready” was President from March 4, 1849 to July 9, 1850.
Well, there clearly was a Scott 2 applied to this letter at one time. It was tied by the file fold, allowing a few bits to be retained when most of the stamp was torn off. Also, this outer cover sheet has been trimmed. It would have been a magnificent cover when it was first posted. Not anymore.
