John Ruggles (1789-1874) and Albert P. Gould (1821-1888) were partners in a law office in Thomaston, Maine.
John Ruggles was elected Town Clerk in 1819. In 1828, he was on the first Board of the Thomaston Mutual Fire Insurance Company. During the 1820's, he served as moderator, town agent, and Representative to the Legislature. In 1831, he was appointed Judge of Common Pleas. In 1834, he unsuccessfully ran for the Senate.
Albert Palmer Gould attended Harvard Law School and graduated in 1844. He practiced law as a partner with Hon. John Ruggles. In 1861, he became a state representative.
