Letter to Edward Southworth (1804-1869)
The Southworth Manufacturing Company was organized to run the paper mill built by Wells Southworth in Mittineague, West Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1839. Wells Southworth was the president of the Southworth Manufacturing Company for more than fifty years. His son, Horatio Southworth took over the business after Wells retired and he renamed the organization Southworth Company.
Wells Southworth and his brother Edward also established a mill at South Hadley Falls, Massachusetts, organized as the Hampshire Paper Company.
