Lot 938 1847, 10c Black (Scott 2), lovely and detailed example in rich color, nearly four-margined (frameline just grazing at bottom left), tied to folded outer address sheet to Mukwanego [Mukwonago] Wisconsin by red New York 3 Dec cds, Paid endorsement lower left, the address sheet with some edge wear and tiny toning spots (commensurate with age and use), the stamp pretty and sound. Very fine, great usage to an uncommon destination, earliest usage 1848 as the letter is addressed to Wisconsin (admitted May 29, 1848), not Wisconsin Territory, with 2009 PSE certificate. Scott $1000

PSE 1206854 (8/26/2009) it is a genuine usage on a folded outer address sheet to Wisconsin, tied by a red New York c.d.s. cancel - the address sheet with some edge wear and tiny toning spots.
Letter to Sewall Andrews (1807-1887) founded the city of Mukwonago with his wife. He operated a grist mill and a farm, building a permanent settlement in an Indian village.
