Letter to Daniel B. Hinckley of the Hinckley and (Thomas) Egery Iron Company in Bangor, Maine. The firm was originally founded in 1825 and made a wide variety of mill machinery, including sawmills, lath, shingle, and clapboard machines, and travelling-bed planers.
Letter datelined New York Aug 23, 1849.
Letter signed by Mrs. Mary Resfry, Wood & Grant for C. F. Coles, 90 Front Street.
The 1849 edition of Doggett’s lists Caleb F. Coles as a bookkeeper at 9 Rutgers Street. They also list Ross W. Wood & Alexander H. Grant as grocers at 90 Front Street. In Sheldon & Company’s 1845 Business Directory, Wood & Grant are listed as wholesale grocers and commission merchants.
Caleb F. Coles later became cashier of the Central National Bank in New York City.
