Letter sent to Gov. William Woodbridge (1780-1862). Born in Connecticut, his family moved to Marietta, Ohio around 1790, where he grew up and started his education in law. He passed the bar in 1906, became an Ohio State Legislature (House - 1807, Senate 1808-1914) and moved to Detroit in 1814. He served as acting governor of the Michigan territory, and later became a Supreme Court Judge. After statehood, he became US senator (1838-1840), 2nd Governor (1840-41) and then returned to the US Senate (1841-47). He then retired to Detroit, spending his time involved in horticulture.
