The CDS shows a clear 2 to the left of the stamp and an M below it (Boston put the number above the month), but there is a lot of red ink to the right of the 2, obscured by the stamp. The mailing date of May 2 is noted on the reverse but I don’t think it’s correct. Reversing the image and enhancing it reveals a 4 next to the 2 and an A to the right of the M. The third letter is incomplete but the vertical bar is rather close to the A. I would probably date this cover as MAR 24 but MAY 24 is still possible. Assuming the 5 covers in the census are part of the same correspondence, a date of MAR 24 is more likely, given the spacing between the dates and the need for replies to be made and sent.
