I believe this cover is from Fair Haven, Mass and not Fair Haven, Conn (see below).
This is the only known cover from Fair Haven, either Conn or Mass.
Fair Haven, CT is a neighborhood in the eastern part of the city of New Haven, Connecticut, between the Mill and Quinnipiac rivers. The northeast section of the neighborhood is also known as Chatham Square.
Letter addressed to Ebenezer P. Church (1796-1876), who came to Adamsville from Fair Haven, Massachusetts in 1818. He built a general store at 10 Main Street in 1820. In 1838, he took in a partner, Philip Manchester. In 1864, Church sold out to Manchester, and since then the store has been known as Manchester’s. It was particularly well known as a source of Adamsville cheese. (Historic and Architectural Resources of Little Compton, RI, p 17, 52)
While not conclusive, the CDS is Apr 20 from Fair Haven, Mass (There is a faint M below and to the left of the 2.) Also, Mr. Church was from Fair Haven, Mass so this origin makes more sense. Note the US Postal Record for 1851 lists both Fair Haven, Conn and Fair Haven, Mass as post offices with their own postmasters.
The letter is datelined Fair Haven 18 Apr 1849, Wednesday and starts "Dear Uncle". This also points to Massachusetts, although the signature is not identifiable.
Ebenezer had three brothers and three sisters, several of which had children. Ebenezer and all of his siblings are buried in Riverside Cemetery in Fair Haven, Mass.
