The Isaac Howland Jr & Co was located in New Bedford, Mass
“Capt. Isaac Howland (1726-1811), a master mariner in the merchant service and later prominent and successful in the shipping business at New Bedford; his son, Capt. Isaac Howland, Jr. (1755-1834), who succeeded his father in the whaling business and founded the noted firm of I. Howland, Jr. & Co., his son-in-law, Capt. Gideon Howland (1770-1847), being one of the company – men of great wealth, one of whose daughters (Sylvia Ann Howland, 1806-1865) died possessed of an accumulation of upward of $2,000,000, another daughter (Abigale Slocum Howland, 1809-1860) marrying Edward Mott Robinson (1800-1865), who accumulated a property of about $5,000,000…” (Howland Family of Dartmouth and New Bedford, Massachusetts on the AccessGeneology website)
Isaac Howland Jr was a director of the Bedford Bank (1803-1812) and helped incorporate the Mechanics bank and the Mechanics Insurance Company, both in 1831.
