Scott #1, 3+ margins, just into frame line at top left, cancelled with black circular grid, not tied to Jan 8 folded cover (outer letter sheet?) to Fairhaven, Mass. Appears to be a banking letter sent to the treasurer of the Fairhaven Savings Bank.

Sylvanus S. Allen (1826-1854) was Treasurer and Secretary of the Fairhaven Institution for Savings in 1850. When the bank was organized in 1832, Mr. Allen was one of the original officers.
