Figure 1. Blue Trenton star killer on a newly discovered 5c 1847 cover, postmarked Aug 4 (1849) and sent to Philadelphia. This becomes the fourth 1847 cover bearing this attractive fancy cancellation.
The right side of the cover and the top were repaired and a back flap was added. Neither the stamp nor the cancellation were touched.
From “A New Trenton Star Cover” by Lebron Harris, The Chronicle # 267 pp262-3
Mr. Harris notes “The cover was addressed to X. J. Maynard and contains a letter that that adds more interest to it. It is dated August 4, 1849, the same date as the cancel, and it talks about a train wreck near Princeton, New Jersey. It is sent to Mrs. Maynard, a “very dear friend”, by a man who signed the letter “Milton.”
