Lot 348 1847, 5¢ dark brown (Scott 1a), just clear at top to huge margins, tied to an 1851 folded letter to Birmingham by red cancel, matching "New Haven, CT 12 Apr" c.d.s. at left, marked "Paid 5" in manuscript at bottom left; crease in the paper which doesn't affect the stamp, Very Fine.
