Notes
I’m not sure where this cover came from. It was illustrating the Sept 26, 1849 listing from Montgomery Al to New Orleans (ID 197) but this was not the correct image (now fixed). The cds on the stamp is higher (the 26 is inside the stamp design) and the addresse does not touch the cds on the left. I was able to verify that the Caspary sale (Harmer 978 lot 159), the PF certificate and both the Matthies and Gross sales from Siegel all illustrate the same cover (they do, just not this one) but I haven’t been able to find my copy of the Robert Kaufmann sale 60, although the description of the margin close at bottom left does not match this cover but does match the other one.
Clearly there are two Sept 26, 1849 covers from Montgomery to New Orleans.
