Letter datelined New York 3rd April 1850 and signed Schieffelin Brothers & Co.
Letter addressed to Wilson Hart Clark (1824-1887), lawyer, member of the Common Council of New Haven, prosecuting attorney, and member of Connecticut state senate 4th District, 1859-60.
Schieffelin Brothers & Company was a drug firm in NYC, one of the largest in the world, and was run by Henry Hamilton Schieffelin (1783-1865). When he retired in 1849, his son, Samuel Bradhurst Schieffelin (1811-1900) became head of the firm. Other leading members were brothers Sidney Augustus (1818-1894) and James Lawrence Schieffelin (1815-1880).
