Lot 15 (2a) 10c Black, Bisect on Folded Letter, Blue CDS, "Gardiner, ME" tying the bottom half on a gray folded letter to New York, some aging on the cover otherwise Very Fine, there are 18 known bisect covers from Gardiner and this particular cover is unknown and not listed in Alexander, the top half, dated "05/07/prob. 1851" is listed and known going to the same destination as this cover, the stamp is Very Fine, the dark blue CDS ties the stamp well, a wonderful example of this exceedingly rare variety and a very welcome "new find"

John G. Jones (1783-1851) operated a saw mill, a grist mill and a woolen mill in Remsen. He was alos a stone mason.
