Letter sent to William Anderson Porter (1800-1884). Born in Hamilton County, Ohio and died in Corydon, Harrison County, Indiana.
"Judge W. A. Porter came to [Harrison] county in 1827. He graduated at Miami University, and studied law chiefly by his own exertions; was admitted to practice in 1829; was Judge of the Probate Court from 1829 to 1836; in 1836, was elected to the House of Representatives of the State Legislature; was reelected in 1846, serving till 1849, the last term as Speaker of the House; in 1849, was elected to the State Senate. Judge Porter has been a leading attorney in Harrison County, where, in connection with his public duties, he has practiced since 1836." --Baskin's 1876 Atlas of Indiana, pg. 326
