Offered is a very well preserved cover posted with Scott's No. 1, on 17 December, 1849, with a well struck red New York City hand cancel, and red grid killer. Cover addressed to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Stamp has 4 good margins. Cover opened by lifting backflap with very minor nip at bottom tip of flap.

Cover addressed to Rev Leonard M. Vincent (Oct 15, 1814 - Oct 26, 1898) of the Washington Street Methodist Episcopalian Church in Poughkeepsie, NY. Rev Vincent preached in various churches in Brooklyn and New York City from 1842 through 1849 when he relocated back to Poughkeepsie, the city of his birth. So, although the docketed date on the cover cannot be verified, the 1849 dating is consistent with his own history.
