Stamp is damaged by filing fold: vertical crease at right from filing fold and creases/ severe wear in UR area of stamp. The cover has general soiling and 2 filing folds. See magnified image of stamp which shows the condition. Contents --the unfolded letter dated Jan 17 1848 is also show

Letter sent from J R Jaffray in NYC to Henry Garrett & Co in Philadelphia
Henry Garrett & Co were dry goods merchants at 125 High Street in Philadelphia (1848 McElroy’s)
The letter contents refer to George Handy (a Philadelphia merchant at 17 N wharf) and Samuel Hildeburn (Samuel Hildeburn & Sons were also merchants at 17 N wharf).
J R. Jaffray & Sons were merchants at 182 Pearl Street in NYC (1847 Doggett’s).
