Dr. Thomas Story Kirkbride (1809-1883) was a physician n the Pennsylvania Hospital for the Insane (McElroy’s 1849 Philadelphia City Directory). He was also founder of the Association of Medical Superintendents of American Institutions for the Insane (AMSAII), a precursor to the American Psychiatric Association.
