General Lewis Perrine (1815-1889) graduated from Princeton University in 1838, studied for the bar, and was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 1841 and settled in Trenton. Prior to the Civil War, served as 2nd Lieut.,10th US Infantry during the Mexican war. On Sept. 22, 1855, appointed Brigadier-General and Quartermaster-General of the State of New Jersey, in which office he continued until his death.
