Letter dateline Chelsea, May 23, 1849, addressed to His Excellency, George N Briggs (Governor of Mass.) at Pittsfield Mass. Boston MAY 24 (1849) red CDS with damaged red brown Scott #1.
Signed Rebekah L. Fay, the contents begging the Governor to commute the death sentence of Washington Goode, a black man convicted of murdering another black man over a dispute for a woman. Many felt the evidence was insufficient and biased. Good was hanged.
