Letter datelined Boston, April 26, 1850 and written by J. C. Robertson.
The 1850 Boston city directory lists John C. Robertson at 3 Lewis Street, as a tobacco dealer.
The letter reads, " Dear Sir, Since you was here, I have redc 12 hhd of tobacco from New Orleans. They were sampled yesterday afternoon and 8 of the lot proved to be of fine quality."
Edward and his brothers Eldridge and Nathaniel, were ship owners and international traders in produce, lumber, and other goods.
