5c 1847 used August 19, 1849 from Jacksonville, Florida. Alexander lists only one 5c and one 10c used from Jacksonville. This previously unrecorded usage is by far the nicer of the now two known.

Letter addressed to George Rainsford Fairbanks (1820-1906), lawyer from Watertown NY. He moved to St. Augustine in 1842 and served as court clerk until 1846, Florida State Senator (1846-49) and then practiced law until 1859. He was mayor of St. Augustine in 1857.
During the Civil War, George served as Quartermaster for General Bragg with the Army of the Tennessee.
After the war he became treasurer of the University of the South and commissioner of buildings and lands in Sewanee. Tennessee.
In 1880 he became editor of the Florida Mirror. He authored two books on Florida history.
He was married twice and had 7 children.
