Lot 417 A collection of more than 340 stamped & stampless nineteenth century covers. Ten early territorial covers incl. pmks. of Detroit (Oval), Frenchtown (ms.), Mackinac, Brownstown (ms.), Niles, Monroe & Adrian. Writers incl. General Alexander Macomb (1821 letter; later commanding general of U.S. Army) & Robert Navarre (son of Col. Francis Navarre-first white settler on the River Raisin). Wide range of rates & pmks., incl. some railroad & steamboat markings, comer card ads, patriotics, etc. Most stamped covers with 3c 1851, 1857 or 1861 franking but some better issues are present incl. 5c 1847 (Fine 1850 Folded Cover with Blue Detroit pmk.), 1c 1869, 2c E. Grill (vert. pair with P.F. Certificate), 1c 1851-57 (five covers) & 10c 1857. About one-fourth are mounted & neatly written-up in two new Elbe Governor albums, others in stockbook & glassines, condition varies but generally F-VF, Many Rare Items, Worthy of Expansion as an Exhibition Collection (Photo Ex) E.XVI
