Notation on back reads “E T H Gibson / June 5 / 50” The 1848 edition of Doggett’s NYC directory lists an Edmund T H Gibson (1818-1868) as a merchant located at 76 Broadway.
Letter addressed to John Gardiner (1816-1915), born in New London County, Conn and moved to Ohio in 1832. He was a banker, helped organize the Norwalk Branch of the State Bank of Ohio and , later, established and became president of the Norwalk National Bank. In 1850, he helped secure the charter of the Toledo, Norwalk, and Cleveland Railroad Co. He served as director of numerous railroad companies and became president of several lines. He was married to Frances Mary Joslin in 1843 and they had 4 children.
