Sylvester Edwin Waterbury (1808-1883) was a coach maker (1842 Patten’s New Haven City Directory). He married Sarah Bland (1849-1915) in 1877. Miss E. G. Waterbury, therefore, was not his daughter.
Sylvester was the 11th child of Jonathan Waterbury (1760-1812) and Sally Hoyt (1766-1830). One of Sylvester’s siblings was Betsy Waterbury (1791-1855) who never married. She (Elizabeth), however, had a middle initial A, according to the 1850 census (listed as living with Sylvester’s brother, Charles Edward Waterbury.) None of the 11 siblings match a “Miss E. G. Waterbury”
