Letter sent to Cochecton, NY in Sullivan County. James Clark Curtis (Oct 28, 1797 - Feb 21, 1881) was the first Supervisor of the town, elected in March 1829, and held the office for 17 years. He represented Sullivan County in the NY State Assembly (1831 & 1833), and in the NY State Senate (1849). He was a Justice of the Peace for 30 years, appointed first Judge of the Court of Common Pleas (1844), and United States Assessor for the Eleventh district of New York (1862-1869).
