Samuel C. Edes (1810-1865) is listed in the Baltimore 1849 City Directory as working in wholesale grocery firm of Harvey, Carson & Co. The principals were Henry D. Harvey and Thomas J. Carson. The company was dissolved in July 1852. Based on the notation "Care of Thomas J. Carson Co.", this cover predated the partnership and was probably mailed in 1848.
