Cover was sent to Rev. Churchill J Gibson (1819-1892), Founder and Rector of Grace Protestant Episcopal Church in Petersburg, Virginia for 51 years, for his daughter, Annabelle. Churchill’s wife was Lucy Fitzhugh Atkinson (1815-1894).
There are 5 other illustrated covers addressed to Annabelle in care of her father but none of them match the placement of the cancellation on this one.
