Lot 1109 1847, 5¢ red brown (Scott 1), well margined 5¢ tied by red grid with matching New York cds at right to a 1849 folded letter sheet, addressed to Philadelphia PA, personal letter, Very Fine.

McElroy’s 1849 Philadelphia City Directory lists Isaac Collins at 129 Filbert Street, no occupation, and an Isaac Collins Jr as a sawmill owner(?). William M Collins was a paper merchant at 33 Commerce Street.
The CDS is hard to read. There are 4 vertical bars in the month and the day appears to be 16. The NYC CDS has the day centered below the month so the letters in the month are J (left bar), U (central 2 bars) and either N or L (right bar). The last letter cannot be enhanced.
