5c Dark Brown (1a). Intense color and impression which we think may even qualify as Blackish Brown, large margins to clear, pre-printing paperfold at bottom center, also with "Dot in "S" variety, tied by red grid and used with Boston Mass., 1c Blue on Pelure (3LB1), the carrier stamp tied by red "Boston 5cts. 14 Mar." integral-rate circular datestamp on blue folded cover to New York, pencil notation on back notes 1849 use
VERY FINE. A RARE USE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE IN A DISTINCTIVE SHADE WITH THE BOSTON CARRIER STAMP TIED BY THE CIRCULAR DATESTAMP.
Accompanied by note from Calvet M. Hahn who notes that if this is indeed an 1849 usage then this would be the earliest reported use of the Boston Carrier stamp. His note also states that the color of the 5c stamp would point to an 1850 usage as he believes this comes from the third printing, which did not reach Boston until June 20, 1849.

It Is A Genuine Usage THE 5¢ STAMP WITH A PRE-PRINTING FOLD
