Letter to William Edward Finch (1822-1901), lawyer, unsuccessful Whig candidate for Congress in 1850. Finck later switched political parties to become a Democrat and went on to successfully represent Ohio's 12th and later 7th congressional districts in the U.S. House of Representatives during the 38th (1863-65), 39th (1865-67), and 43rd (1874-75) Congresses.
