1 1847 5¢ red brown HORIZONTAL PAIR, RED NUMERAL "5" CANCELS, ON FOLDED LETTER TO AUBURN, NY, BLUE BALTIMORE, MD. PMK AT RIGHT.
AND WE ARE OF THE OPINION THAT
It Is A Genuine Usage The Right Stamp With A Diagonal Crease At Bottom Right AND A LIGHTENED STAIN AT TOP RIGHT.

SEP 30" circular datestamp alongside, to Auburn NY, 1850 dateline, letter from uncle to niece opens by acknowledging receipt of her letter reporting her husband's death and offering sympathy and condolences, page 3 discusses cholera; right stamp with 2 small faults, and while the cover exterior is toned, the contents are not, Fine to Very Fine, see the letter online, with 1993 P.F. certificate.

Letter from J. S. Eastman to neice, Mary B. Bigelow in Auburn, NY.
J. S. Eastman is listed in the 1849 edition of Machett’s Baltimore City Directory w/o a profession at 180 W. Pratt Street. The 1845 business edition lists Jonathan S. Eastman as an agriculture implement maker and operating a seed store at 180 W. Pratt Street.
Jonathan Sargent Eastman (1788-1856) was born in New Haven, Ct and settled in Baltimore Md. His sister, Mary (1793-1822) married Jonas Brown in Auburn, NY and had a daughter, Mary Abigail Brown (1816-1889), who married Leander Bartlett Bigelow (1797-1850), a physician.
