It Is A Genuine Usage, The Stamp With AN ADDITIONAL LIGHTENED MANUSCRIPT CANCELLATION.

5c Red Brown (1). Large margins, bright color, tied by blue numeral 5 in circle cancel and matching Baltimore Md. Mar. 30 circular datestamp on cover addressed to the care of General S. Van Rensselaer in Albany N.Y., stamp with additional lightened manuscript cancel, still fresh and Very Fine, an unusual use, the distance between Baltimore and Albany was just over 300 miles, so this should have 10c postage, either it was paid 10c with stamp and cash, or perhaps it was allowed to pass to the well-known General Van Rensselaer, illustrated and described in an article in Chronicle 222 (copy accompanies), ex Brown and Boker, with 2001 P.F. certificate.¨E. 750-1,000
