Daniel Addison Heald (1818-1900) was a lawyer (admitted 1843) and cashier of the Bank of Black River (1846-54) in Proctorsville, Vt. He entered Vermont politics in 1850, first in the House of Representatives and then in the Senate (1854). He joined the Home Insurance Company of New York in 1856 as a general agent and then advanced to Second Vice President in 1868, Vice President in 1883 and President in 1888. During the 1880s he was President of the Nation Board of Fire Underwriters.
