1847 5c Pale brown, Franklin, Sc 1, huge margined corner copy tied on cover to Philadelphia. Tied by blue Baltimore cds with scarce blue straight line "5". Exception stamp and marvelous franking.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA¨1847 5c CORNER COPY WITH GOOD TO HUGE MARGINS TIED TO COVER BY SCARCE BALTIMORE "5" & C.D.S.; Unusual 18 Dec. c.1849 env. (orange-brown paper; slight scuffs to front well clear of stamp & marks) to Philadelphia franked by a remarkably large corner copy of the 1847 5c (Scott 1; #100) tied by a fair blue ""BALTIMORE/Md." c.d.s. as well as by a very fine scarce matching blue Handstruck straight-line "5" mark, which is much scarcer as a cancel on this issue than the oval "5" mark; this combination of both "5" and c.d.s. cancelling the stamp is very unusual and the stamp is most attractive.
