1847 5c. red-brown cancelled by blue grid on 1848 (Feb. 17th) cover marked ˜Due 5', the stamp previously cancelled in red and cleaned and fraudulently re-used, a most unusual and very interesting postal fraud cover.

1847 5c red brown shade Franklin (Scott #1) single tied by a blue grid cancel on underpaid 1848 dated folded cover sent from Baltimore to Frederick City, Maryland. Accompanying blue February 17, Baltimore, Maryland circular date stamp at left. The stamp exhibits a distinct red brown shade and ample to large margins but also has a small tear at top center. Manuscript "Due 5" and "Paid" markings at top center of the cover. Overall, this is a very fine 5c 1847 Issue underpaid cover sent within Maryland.
