Baltimore – Philadelphia (1847): This folded letter from the famous Charnley & Whelen correspondence bears an extraordinary sheet margin copy of the 5c dark brown used on DEC 15 (1847). The stamp represents prepayment for a single letter carried less than 300 miles.
