1849, February 28, Portland, Me. to Goose River, Me. Folded wrapper postmarked Portland c.d.s., PAID and ms. "3", all in blue; the other side of the wrapper is the address leaf of a folded letter sent from Brunswick, Me. to Portland bearing an 1847 10¢ Black (2) with ample to large margins (including part sheet margin at top) except cut in slightly at lower left, tied by two crossed strikes of a red circular grid with a red Brunswick c.d.s., Oct 18 (1848) at left; Fine to Very Fine.

This sheet was first mailed from Brunswick to Portland as a double-rate letter. Four months later it was reused as a wrapper for a newspaper (ms. notation "1 newspaper, chg (box) 176"), thus the 3¢ rate.
