1847, 5¢ red brown (Scott No. 1). Horizontal pair, ample margins to slightly in at top, late impression, tied by red grids and matching "New Orleans La. Feb. 15" c.d.s. on buff envelope to Stratford, Ct. with red "Steamer Hecla" oval with central ornament, light but readable strike; cover with edge wear, Fine and very rare. Estimate $1,500-2,000

AND WE ARE OF THE OPINION THAT
IT IS A GENUINE USAGE, THE STAMPS SLIGHTLY OXIDIZED THE RIGHT 5¢ STAMP WITH A SMALL MARGIN TEAR AT BOTTOM LEFT; THE RED OVAL "HECLA" HANDSTAMP LIGHTLY STRUCK AND SOME SURFACE SCUFFING AFFECTING THE FIRST LINE OF THE ADDRESS.
