Alexander listed as 3/2/51 and duplicated as 5/2/51 (removed)
EBAY lot (dllimone) images and notes the cover has been refolded. Has some pinhole cross-fold separations and a 1" edge separation.
The reverse docking clearly shows this letter was mailed from Mobile, Alabama on March 1, 1851, treated as a Way letter, and entered the US mails in New Orleans on March 2, 1851.
The letter was docketted D. C. Sampson, cashier and signed Dan C. Sampson
The Banker's Magazine July 1850 - June 1851 reported (p429) that Daniel C. Sampson was elected cashier of the newly formed Southern Bank of Alabama in Mobile. On page 514 they noted the bank opened on Oct 15, 1850.
Daniel C. Sampson (1804-1866) was married to Emeline M. Sampson (1805-1877). They had two children, Sarah Elizabeth (1840-1849) and Emeline Ann (1843-1848), both of whom died, sadly, in childhood.
