The 1850 Federal Census (Union Co., Ky.) lists Ellen Sale, 24, living with her grandparents, William (79) and Lavina (70) both from Va., and 4 younger brothers, aged 10-13. Occupation: farmers. William Sale was captain of a Virginia cavalry battalion in the War of 1812.
