Scott #1 on Way cover to New Orleans. Way 1 indicates that the extra 1 cent fee was paid in route from Mobile, Alabama. Brown-black stamp tied by ms cancel. Cover has red New Orleans APR 26 (1850) cds. Letter addressed to A. L Waterman in New Orleans and was sent by John Bloodgood.

Cover addressed to Andrew Searle Waterman (1815-1852), a commission merchant and cotton broker in New Orleans. He was the son of John Waterman of Providence RI, a mill owner. The Watermans partnered with ex. Mayor Thomas Mackie Burgess (1806-1856) at 79 Common Street, New Orleans in 1846.
John Bloodgood, originally from Wales, immigrated to Mobile Alabama in 1822. He was an officer in the Mobile & Ohio Railroad Company, founded in 1848.
