Charles H. Test (July 9, 1802-Oct 10, 1885) was born in Wilmington, Delaware and came to Indiana around 1810. He trained as a lawyer and was elected to the State House of Representatives and served from 1826 to 1827. He served as president judge of the 6th circuit (1830-1836); State Senator (1840-1841); Indiana Secretary of State (1849-1853); judge of the 12th circuit (1857-1870); and Marion County criminal court judge (1872-1874). Test married his second wife, Elizabeth Moore, in 1842. He also wrote a novel called The Novice.
John Ingle, Jr. (1812-1875) was born in England and was less than 5 years old when his family moved to Princeton, Indiana. John studied law and was a partner of H Q Wheeler, in Evansville, when this letter was written. He later became president of the Evansville and Crawfordsville railroad company and owner of a coal mine in Evansville.
