1847 5c red brown Franklin (Scott #1) single tied by "X" manuscript cancel on 1848 dated folded letter sent from Evansville to Lafayette, Indiana. Accompanying and perfectly struck blue July 8, Evansville, Indiana circular date stamp at right. The 5c stamp has a sharp color (likely a dark brown shade - Scott #1a) and ample to large margins all around. This is the earliest recorded 5c 1847 Issue cover from Evansville with the second earliest sent almost seven months later in February 1849
