Letter addressed to Simon Newton Dexter (1785-1862). In 1829 he became the agent of the Oriskany Manufacturing Company, and in 1832 the agent of the Dexter Manufacturing Company of Pleasant Valley. In 1835 he was elected a trustee of Hamilton College, and in 1838 president of the Bank of Whitestown. In 1840 he was appointed one of the Canal Commissioners and
in 1850 one of the Managers of the State Lunatic Asylum at Utica.
Letter endorsed B W Raymond, Feby 1851 on reverse.
The 1856 Chicago City Direcotry lists Benjamin W. Raymond of the firm raymond & Ward, commission merchants at 177 South Water.
