The Chicago 1856 directory lists J. B. F, Russell & Co as real estate brokers at 94 Randolph Street.
From Fort Dearborn History – “Capt. John B. F. Russell was here upon detached Indian-service, when I came, and superintended the Indians’ final removal. He entered West Point from Massachusetts, in 1814, was made captain in 1830, and resigned, 22d June, 1837. He built the first public hall in our City, at the south-east corner of Lake and Clark Streets, known as “The Saloon” where courts, public meetings, balls, etc., etc., were held.”
Horace F. Ash and Isaac Roland Diller (1819-1891) were Springfield land agents, agents for the Know Insurance Co, and agents for the Hope Mutual Life Insurance Company of Connecticut.
