Alexander listed as 5/28/50
EBAY lot (bigskmom) asking $3000
A beautiful sound folded cover from June 6, 1850 franked with a EF/S US #2, 10c Washington issued in 1847.
Short message inside is singed by Joseph A. Wright, Governor of Indiana, Wright served from Dec 5, 1849 to Jan 12, 1857. The message reads State of Indiana, Executive Department, Indianapolis, June 6, 1850. The Secretary of State will make out a commission and send forward the paper as within requested, Joseph A. Wright.
PF Certificate
Stamp is sound with reg grid cancel tying it to the cover. Margins are superb (possible sheet margin at left) on three sides at EF at bottom left.
Macon Georgia town cancel at left of stamp in red.
Reverse has a few old hinge remnants but is sound.
Truly a beautiful cover with near superb margins all around. The best centered example of a #2 on cover I have ever seen.
Catalogs for $2800 as VF on cover with red town cancel. Signature of Indiana governor adds historicity but I don't know how much value to this cover.
Robert A. Siegel Auction Galleries, Inc. sale 1051 lot 1357 E. 1400 realized 650
