Confederate 1847 Cover. This cover was postmarked at Augusta in January of 1862. It was cancelled with the double circle townmark in black. The United States 5¢ Franklin was mailed on January 8.
Ashbrook Special Services cover 230
Lot 350 5c Grayish Brown (1a). Four margins, tied by Augusta Ga Jan 8 (1852) dble circle pmk on buff cover to Eatonton Ga. paying the 5c Confederate postage (most likely an unused 5c '47 was unearthed and permitted to pay the rate just as most US late usages of the ˜47s were recognized as valid for postage); no flap, with 1955 PF certificate. In addition, the lot includes a 7 star flag Patriotic with #26 used Apr 9, '61, also CSA #1 used three days later (Jan 11 '62) and #4 used July 1 1862 1st day of the 10c, rare, both 4 margins and both with same Augusta postmark
