Lot 31 #1 5c red brown, with huge margins to just touching at upper left, including a portion of the adjacent stamp at top and a large portion of the sheet margin at right, tied by ms X to 1850 folded letter to Upper Marlboro, Md., red Washington DC 5 Cts JUN 28 town cancel, this being the only recorded usage of the 1847 issue with this type of DC postmark, staining from mended cover tear at bottom, otherwise fine; in the 1847 Directory as 6-28-50.

Kukstis sale 10 Feb 25, 1994 lot 443 describes the stamp as light red brown and notes an inked notation on back
Frajola sale March 21, 1992 lot 324 describes the stamp as orange brown notes the crease affects the stamp (crease also apparent in the Kukstis sale illustration).
